The events of the series unfold in the year 2278. As in the original novel, the story begins when Rudolf Sikorski (Leonid Yarmolnik), head of the Commission for Contacts with Extraterrestrial Civilizations, tasks Maxim Kammerer (Yuri Kolokolnikov) with finding Lev Abalkin (Maxim Matveev)—a Progressor who, against regulations, prematurely ended his mission on the planet Hope and returned to Earth. Kammerer must not only track down Abalkin but also after uncovering his connection with the wanderers super-civilization save the whole Earth from the disaster.
